I created these two magazine spreads to compare how much design can affect a target market, in this case a target reader. The above example is perceived as having more feminine design elements, as well as being inspired by the romanticized idea of “wanderlust”. Therefore, it appeals more to a target market of women between the ages of 19 to 28.
The bottom example utilizes images that reference camping and the separation of an individual from society. Sleeping in a tent, hiking and making your own fire gives off a substantially different feeling than the implication of flying to a tropical resort. The target market of this example is far less narrow; it has the potential to appeal to both men and women anywhere from 18 to 55 years of age.
